Background
- Association for Rural Peoples Advencement (ARPA) is the name of the organization. It is Non-Profitable, Non-Government, Voluntary and Social Organization for the service of poor majority of the rural areas of the country.
- Association for Rural Peoples Advencement (ARPA) has been working relentlessly to reduce poverty since 2011. The north-western districts of the country are poorer than the other districts. The formal banking sector in our country is developing. But they didn’t provide financial services to the poor. This sector concentrates on large loans to the high income group, thereby completely excluding low income group.
- The microfinance movement, however, has shown that there is a thriving market among the poor when financial products cater to their specific needs. The poor are a quite active group in any economy. Association for Rural Peoples Advencement (ARPA) has shown that their needs can be met while at the same time making the institution profitable as well. Due to this, the people of these areas are socio-economically in bad condition. Illiteracy, Unemployment, Unawareness, Mal-nutrition and Unhealthy situation are prevailing all over the areas. As a result, majority of the people live in below living standard. Besides, the gender situation is also not good due to social mal-practices. Majority of the women section are abused and tortured mentally and physically. On the other side, most of the children are mal-nourished and sometimes become victims of trafficking and child labor.
- By observing and understanding all the above stated miserable conditions and realities several enthusiastic, energetic and social minded young men came forward to volunteer their services for the needy people and established an Organization named Association for Rural Peoples Advencement (ARPA) as on 2011.
- Association for Rural Peoples Advencement (ARPA) believes in the service of human beings for their total (Socio-economic, Cultural, Education, Political and Spiritual) development. Therefore, it gives priority to the poor, oppressed, marginalized and deprived group of people of the society for their advancement so to establish their human dignity, values and social justice in the community of rural Bangladesh.
- The main mission of Association for Rural Peoples Advencement (ARPA) is to form organization of the poor, disable, landless, marginalized and indigenous men and women in order to integrate them in the process of socio-economic development ventures for their self-sufficiency and authentic development.
- To set-up literacy centre to impact education to the illiterate and backward people of the rural, underdeveloped areas, to arrange free mass education and to initiate formal child education, adult education, and religious education.
- With a view to improving the socio-economic condition of the rural, landless and working class people, by creating employment opportunities to make them self- employed and to take up various types of projects for the disadvantaged people.
- Forming group of the women who are destitute and moneyless and by order of the authority concerned starting training and making them fit for work by providing them with training.
- By order of the authority concern to impart training in order to cure diseases through primary health and immunization and preparing and advertising books and leaflets based on information subject matter.
- Making the people aware of family planning and encouraging them to take various contraceptives and for this reason to initiate wide campaign and taking programs for giving a helpful service.
- In order to improve the socio-economic condition of the rural especially backward, landless and working class people and imparting them trade-based training and creating employment opportunities and making them employed.
- For employment and earning the destitute and impoverished class by the permission of the authority concern by giving training on cottage industry, encouraging them to set up cottage industry and introducing cottage industry and giving them assistance.
- Making the general mass aware of environment, prevention of concerned by the consent of the authority concerned, setting up libraries to form of reading habit among people and publishing regular bulletin of the authority concerned.
- As well as lunching anti-smoking campaign, encouraging people extensively by to donate blood voluntarily.
- Forming group of the women who are destitute and moneyless and by order of the authority concerned starting training and making them fit for work by providing them with training.
- For the employment of the lower educated unemployed youths, starting, vocational training and making them fit for work.
- Arranging entertainment for the helpless old and by order the authority concerned, through training, making those who are capable for work.
- In order to make the organization self-reliant/independent, initiating development programs.
- Providing legal aids for the children and women who are oppressed and making arrangement for their rehabilitation.
- Through vocational training fit for adult literacy formal education introducing education program for developing skilled manpower.
- Awareness about primary health, pure drinking water, introducing sanitary latrine programs at a low cost and helping E.P.I programs.
- Giving aid to the in-come generating activities of the landless and destitute women.
- Training women on handicraft, giving them profession at education and improving their lot.
